Camp Mulberry 2020

School is out! Summers at Camp Mulberry are filled with fun, amazing friends, and loads of laughter.

COVID-19 Update:

Dear Camp Mulberry Families,

Thank you for your registration for Camp Mulberry 2020.

While we are all sheltering in place and adjusting to working and learning remotely from home, we know that many of you are wondering whether our summer camps will be canceled.

We are currently looking at all the options to make an informed and thoughtful decision. Much will depend on the advice and orders from our county and state health officials. Santa Clara County’s current shelter-in-place order is in effect until May 3, 2020. Once health officials provide an update, we will be able to make a final decision.

Should we need to cancel camps for this summer, please know that you will receive a full refund.

These are unprecedented times. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this challenging situation.

Please look for an announcement in early May! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Take care and be well.

Kindest regards,

Your Camp Mulberry Team

“The way to read a fairy tale is to throw yourself in.”

W.H. Auden

Become a fearless knight, a magical fairy, a spectacular dragon, or a royal princess. Learn about fairy-tale lore, build castles, create sparkly fairy wings, dance, and don’t forget to bring your wildest imagination to create the most fantasy-filled week ever!

6/22-6/26

Take a dive with us and meet the critters that live under the sea! Campers will learn about the many wonders of the sea through hands-on experiments, crafts, games, and puzzles. They will even get to meet a leopard shark when the Marine Science Institute comes on campus.

6/29-7/3

Only at Camp Mulberry would one of our most popular camps be named “Water, Sand, & Dirt.” After all, what better way to spend a hot summer days building sandcastles, creating waterways, floating boats, making mud-pies, and excitedly running through the sprinklers? If it involves using water, sand, and/or dirt, you can bet it will happen this week. Oh, yeah, and we also learn a lot about earth science while we’re playing!

7/13-7/17

3, 2, 1…BLAST-OFF! Space camp will be all about exploring what’s out there in the amazing universe. Campers will build their own rockets and find moon rocks right here on Earth. They will search for and understand about our incredible star constellations! Space Camp provides campers with an atmosphere for imagination and creativity to take off on an adventure that’s out of this world!

7/20-7/24

Science is everywhere we look! This week your campers will explore and investigate the captivating world of science. They will experiment, investigate their surroundings, and, of course, have fun with slime. Proper safety standards will be followed. Campers will also join in this week’s special: a visit with the Traveling Tide Pools.

7/27-7/31

This week, we will learn about the lives of famous Latino muralists who create murals about Latin culture in California and in America. Children will explore the process of creating and collaborating on a large scale 15′-20′ mural on canvas paper from concept to sketching to execution while learning Spanish parts of speech (nouns, verbs, and adjectives). Each child will paint part of a collaborative canvas as well as have the opportunity to create their own 4’-5’ mini mural incorporating perspective and representations. The medium for both projects will be acrylic paint on paper canvas. Muy divertido! The artist studio will include an appreciation of Latin food and music. The artists we will study are Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siquieros, Jose Clemente Orozco, Rufino Tamayo who will become new admired friends!

*There is a $15 material fee to ensure quality materials/this fee is included in the summer camp registration fee.

Without a doubt, this unique, 20-plus-year old Mulberry camp is a runaway classic and summer favorite of our campers and counselors. It is based on the book Roxaboxen, by Alice McLerran and Barbara Cooney, which tells the fictional story of an Arizona town made completely by children from boxes, rocks, and fantasy.

We bring this beloved Roxaboxen tale to life on our campus. Children build homes, open businesses, and work through the dilemmas of city management, entirely based on their own imaginations! Every year brings new twists on the old Roxaboxen ‘magic’. Roxaboxen will be held in Mulberry’s expansive Preschool building and yard. Your campers will construct their village together with the 4th-6th grade Roxaboxen camp. We are thrilled that Teacher Cassie will be joining us again as Mayor!

6/22-6/26

If you adore ALL kinds of animals, this camp is for you! Based on the popular television network, Animal Planet, this camp introduces your camper to the many wonders of the animal kingdom through crafts, games, and visits with animals. Happy Hollow Zoo and the Marine Science Institute will visit with some of their critters and sea animals, including a leopard shark.

6/22-6/26

Campers will be cooking in the kitchen creating amazing masterpieces this week. From learning about basic cooking ingredients and herbs to understanding how important presentation is when cooking for others and yourself. During the week, our campers will venture outside to our lush garden to experience firsthand where many of our foods originate. Also, we will have a day where campers will create their own creations from pre-selected ingredients. And don’t worry-all our campers will earn the honor of Top Chef Jr.! As a bonus, a professional guest chef will join us for a special project during the week. Please note: This camp will be nut-free but may include dairy, gluten, and soy.

6/29-7/3

A fun ‘sculpture’ inspired camp using wet clay, Sculpey, various paper and many other artistically friendly building materials such as cardboard, foil, wire, plastic, clay). We will explore dimensions of art and sites specific to sculpture. In addition, we will learn about many of the most inspirational artists and their sculptures, such as Rodin (we will form our own expression ‘clay thinker’), Alexander Calder, (we will construct our own wire and plastic material mobile), Louise Bourgeois (a gigantic paper mache eyeball or giant nose sculpture), and learn about the works of Richard Serra and Edgar Degas. We will end the week excited to showcase and experience our fellow artist’s displaying final sculptures.

*There is a $15 material fee to ensure quality materials/this fee is included in the summer camp registration fee.

7/13-7/17

This week will include unique shark-themed crafts along with playing silly shark games! For a bonus, we will have a visiting Tide Pool experience in a Large 7ft Touch Tank. Our campers will explore live sea snails, pencil urchins, horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, chocolate chip sea stars, green brittle sea stars, a stingray and Yes, a shark! Here’s to a ‘Jaw-some’ time!

“Gotta Catch ’em all” is the theme of Mulberry’s Pokemon camp! Do you stay up at night wondering which starter Pokemon you should choose? Do you ever obsess over why Ash’s Pikachu never evolves? Do you search for clues to tell the difference between all the Nurse Joys and Officer Jennys? Then this is your camp! Through a mix of crafts and imaginative play, campers will have a chance to design their own Pokémon cards, create Pokémon felt stuffies, debate Pokémon strategy, and experience the life of a trainer or Pokémon first-hand. Most importantly, they’ll be able to hang out with other kids who are just as enthralled by the game as they are!

If cards are traded this year, Mulberry School will provide the cards.

They are a cornerstone of our program and make it the special place that it is.

At Camp Mulberry, we like to get wet and dirty. We encourage all parents to send campers with a change of clothes and a towel because every camp provides opportunities to go outside and make a mess. We want our campers to enjoy all of the experiences offered.

Yes, we do. My Green Lunch provides healthy, organic, and sustainably sourced hot lunch for Silicon Valley schools. Their website is http://www.mygreenlunch.com.

Yes, Camp Mulberry is happy to offer Before/After Camp Care. This program is available to all campers, from Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade. We have had several students with severe nut allergies enrolled in our school and camps. Mulberry takes these allergies very seriously and we, therefore, do all we can to discourage nuts of any kind on our campus. We encourage parents to find alternatives for their children’s lunches that exclude nuts or nut products. Campers who bring nuts in their lunches will be asked to eat their lunches in our staff lunch area. We will call parents to request that nuts be excluded from future lunches.

All campers are asked to bring their own water to camp and are encouraged to drink throughout the day. All camps have air-conditioned indoor areas to play. Leads evaluate outdoor conditions each day and modify plans to fit with what works best for daily heat and air quality. Parents may sign a permission slip on the first day of camp and provide their own sunscreen (in a zip lock bag with child’s name) that counselors will help apply to our youngest campers. Older children will be reminded to periodically apply sunscreen throughout the day.

Mulberry staff does not supply any sunscreen. Please drop it off with your camper on the first day of camp along with a signed permission slip.
